Privacy policy

This website does not currently operate user accounts, payments, advertising or first-party analytics. You can read it without giving us any personal data. If you use “Report a mistake” or “Contact us”, we receive what you send, as described below. The site is delivered through Cloudflare, so using it is not anonymous end to end. Last updated 23 October 2026.

Hosting and security

The site is delivered and protected using Cloudflare. Visiting any website involves transmitting technical information such as an IP address, browser information and request details to the services delivering it. Cloudflare may process this information to serve the site, maintain security and prevent abuse. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Cookies and tracking

We do not currently add analytics or advertising cookies, marketing pixels or visitor-profiling tools. Cloudflare may use security-related cookies or challenges when needed to deliver or protect the site, including the spam check described below. If you use the “What matters to me” settings, your answers are saved in your own browser (local storage) so they are still there on your next visit. They stay on your device and are not sent to us.

Contact us, specialist requests and Report a mistake

If you send a message through Contact us, use “Consult with a human specialist” at the end of a page or use “Report a mistake” on a page, we receive and store what you choose to send: your message and, if you give them, your name and email address (both are required for Contact us and specialist requests, optional for Report a mistake). We use them only to read your message, check and correct the site, and reply to you. Sending is always optional.

With each message we also receive the page you sent it from (its address and title, and for Report a mistake the text you selected, if any, and the section it is in), the website you came from if it was another site (its name only), and campaign tags in the page address, if there were any. We also receive technical information: your IP address, browser information, your country, language setting and a Cloudflare request identifier. We use these to deal with abuse and to limit the number of messages one visitor can send in a day.

The IP address, browser information and request identifier are deleted automatically within 30 days of the message. Once we have dealt with a message, we delete your name and email address 90 days later. We may keep the text of the message, the page it concerns and the date, without your name or email, to improve the site. Reading the site does not create any of these records; they exist only if you send a message.

Spam protection and storage

Both forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a message is sent by a person. Turnstile loads from Cloudflare only when you open “Report a mistake” or start filling in the contact form, and Cloudflare processes technical information about your browser to run the check. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy. Messages are stored in Cloudflare D1, a database run by Cloudflare on our behalf. Cloudflare also emails us a copy of each message (with the name and email address you gave, the page and your country, but not your IP address) so that we see it and can reply; our mailbox is hosted by Google (Gmail). Messages are not shared with anyone else.
